This was one of the first project 4th graders completed this year, an oldie but goodie. Students first created robots, using idea sheets and their own imagination to create unique and individual robots. After their robots were completed we stepped outside (while the weather was still good :) to draw the beautiful natural environment around us. Using colored pencils students colored in the background. Before adding color we talked briefly about stylized art noting "Your picture does not need to look exactly like what you see it just need to capture the feeling of what you see". To top them off students used metallic paint markers to give their robots a strong contrast against the mostly green backgrounds. I think they came out great and the kids has a blast thinking about what life would be like if robots lived in Westwood!
The display of their final compositions was accompanied by a short writing which advertised their robot for people to purchase.
