I'll begin by saying that I usually don't do holiday projects with kids, primarily because they are often able to do them elsewhere. With that said, I think that Valentines day is a universal holiday enjoyed by everyone of any age and students enjoy expressing their emotions through artistic projects like this. For this card I told students that it had to be for someone in their family (usually they make cards for classmates in the classroom). We used a simple pop-up card format which students could customize to their own liking. These cards always come out great AND fit perfectly into our curriculum as we cover cutting, glueing and creating forms out of paper!
